        That’s a very good question! It’s an incredibly complex process as you might imagine. Most medicines take 10-12 years to develop for this reason. We use many many methods to ensure that the disease will be treated with the best medicine we can make, including making lots of similar compounds and test them to see which is best (called lead optimisation), using computers to study the biological targets of our medicines and genetic techniques to understand who the disease is impacting and why.
