We literature do work on cool projects as most of our work is done on very cold surfaces just a few degrees above absolute zero. This allows us to simulate the surfaces of dust grains in space.

All my projects are very cool – we work at -196 °C 😉

I sometimes work with a cryocooler to make parahydrogen gas in a very pure form. Not only is this a very exciting experiment as parahydrogen can be to make nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) 1000s of times more sensitive, the cryocooler also operates at only 20 K (-253 °C) – that’s very cold!
